Imagery
The Department maintains a library of approximately 2 million aerial photographs covering Queensland at various scales and dates.
This imagery is available for loan or purchase through the departments business centres.
Orthophotos are images resulting from the ortho-rectification of aerial photographs based on a digital terrain model or digital elevation model.
Sensors on board satellites record the intensity of reflected light from both the visible and invisible parts of the spectrum. Some sensors also record transmitted light in the form of heat or radiation. This data can be used to create an image similar to a photograph.
Historical photographs of Queensland
This collection of over 550 photographs, the oldest dating from the 1860s, depicts the early history and settlement of Queensland. It comprises photographs taken by state government photographers, donations from private collections, and photographs from the John Oxley historical archive.
In response to the Queensland floods, the department is working to make imagery of inundated areas available to assist with the management and recovery of flood affected areas.
