About Wildlife Online

The Department of Environment and Resource Management's (the department) wildlife database contains recorded wildlife sightings and listings of plants, fungi, protists, mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, freshwater fish, marine and cartilaginous fish, butterflies and other priority invertebrates in Queensland.

This website enables you to access a list of wildlife that the department has recorded for areas such as national parks, State forests and local government areas, or areas defined by the user.

Wildlife lists for local government areas, basins/catchments and natural resource management body regions and some species notes and images can be accessed via WetlandInfo's wetland information summary search. Wildlife lists, survey data and wildlife data can also be accessed via the WetlandMaps report tool and inventory tool.

Wildlife Online outputs contain kingdom, class, family, scientific name, common name, flag for introduced species, status under the Nature Conservation Act 1992, status under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and the number of records for the record category selected and the number of specimens for each species recorded in the nominated area. The information is provided as either an Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) or tab delimited text file emailed to a valid address.

Information about your Wildlife Online search request is collected to process this transaction. These requests details are logged for quality assurance and product enhancement purposes only.

The information used to produce the wildlife lists is based on collated species lists and wildlife records (with a precision of 2000 metres or less) acquired by the department from a range of internal and external sources including specimen collections, research and monitoring programs, inventory programs including extension activities, literature records, wildlife permit returns and community wildlife recording programs. As the department is still in the process of collating and vetting wildlife data, it is possible the information given is not complete. The absence of a species from the list does not mean that it does not occur there, but only that records are not held within the department wildlife database.
